AGRICULTURE ENGINEERING WING

INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND/HISTORY:

Agriculture Engineering wing was established in mid-50's with the aim, to developed waste and cultivable lands, to boost up the Agricultural activities, to make the country self - sufficient in food stuff requirements and to improved the socio - economic life of the grower's community. The economy of the country is based on Agriculture and improvement of this sector will help in establishing Agro-based industries and new job opportunities will be created for overall improvement in the society. HISTORY OF AGRICULTURE ENGINEERING WING:

Since the establishment of the Agriculture Engineering in mid-50's thousands of hectors of cultivable waste land is brought under cultivation. The department not only contributes to the country’s self-sufficiency in food stuff requirement, but also added millions of rupees in GNP through cash deposit in Government treasury; and improvement of socio- economic life of Farmers and rural areas peasants of the province.

Back in 1956 Agriculture Engineering wing had established only two workshops at Khairpur and Tandojam  to cater to the need at that time. After West Pakistan, Agricultural development council (WPADC), devolution in early 70’s ADC workshops at Sukkur, Ghotki and Nareja along with their staff were merged in the Agricultural   Engineering wing of Agriculture Department.

During early 70's it was also felt to establish workshops at Larkano and Thatto Districts of the Province in order to meet the demand and spread departmental activities all over the province, which  were further strengthen by establishing new sub workshops  and field workshops in the province in due course of time.

At present Agriculture Engineering Wing after being re-structured, has it headquarter at Hyderabad, headed by the Director General, Agriculture Engineering Sindh. Whereas, two Additional Directorate Generals are established at Hyderabad and Sukkur for lower Sindh and upper Sindh respectively.

MAIN FEATURES:

  • Development of culturable waste land through bulldozers.
  • Supplementing additional ground water for irrigation purpose through Rig Machines & Hand Boring Plants.
  • Train Main Power for Tractor  and Implements Operation maintenance.
  • Provide Agriculture Implements on 50% subsidy to the Farmers for the promotion of Agricultural Mechanization.
  • Provides Laser Land Levering equipment for precession Land Leveling.
  • Installation of Tube Wells on 50% subsidy.
  • Provides Technical guidance and allied agro Technical Services to the Farmers.
  • To increase Tractor population in Sindh efficient farm Mechanization by providing Financial assistants on  the purchase of wheel type tractor.
  • To provide bulldozers service to the farmers at reasonable cast to improved the new Lands.
  • To render drilling services for installation of tube wells.
  • To guide/ assist the farmers for farm Mechanization and provide services of modern farm machines and equipment on higher basis like combine Harvesters, Trans planters  Leveling of lands.
  • Exploration of ground water for supplementing Irrigation Water.
  • Harvesting and Threshing Paddy Crop.
  • Provision of farm implements.
  • Training of persons in the field of farm tractors and implements operation and maintenance.
  • Provision of repair and servicing facilities for Public as well as privately owned farm machinery and equipment.

INFRA-STRUCTURE:

  • Main Agriculture Engineering Workshop (5) at TandoJam, Khairpur, Thatta,  Sukkur and 
  • Sub Agriculture Engineering  Workshop (10-12) units.
  • Tractor Operators Training School (2) at Tandojam and Sukkur.
  • Agriculture Mechanization Research Cell  (1) at Tandojam.
  • On Farm Training Institute

The Agriculture Engineering Wing provide the available machinery to the Farmers at subsidized rental charges.

  • Adoptions of new technologies in Agriculture.
  • Supporting irrigation from sweet water around water through drilling sections.
  • Provision of Tractors, Trollies & Auto leaders far farm operations.
  • Establishment of Machinery Bank for Farmers.
  • Training of technical staff & Farmers.
  • Land development activities.
  • Laser land leveling.
  • Solarization of Tube Wells.
