Brief

Independent post of the Cane Commissioner Sindh in Grade – 19 having its head office at Hyderabad has been established since 07-01-1984. According to Sugar Factories Control Act 1950 Sec#6(1) Appoint any officer, not below the status of collector, Previously Director Agriculture Extension used to be Ex-Officio Cane Commissioner.

Objectives:
Implementation and supervision of the provisions of Sugar Factories Control Act 1950 / Rules 1964 and the Rules made there under.
Supervision of the working of the Sugar Factories Control Act.
Investigation/monitoring of Cane Development activities of the Sugar Mills.
To regulate the supply of Cane to the Sugar Mills.
Implementation of Sugarcane (Development) Cess Rules 1964 including Recovery of Sugarcane Development Cess.
Cane Commissioner is Ex-Officio Director / Member on Federal Sugar Board of Directors, Larkana Sugar Mills and Sindh Sugar Corporations.
   
  Planting Season of Sugarcane.
Autumn Season.           From  September  to  November.
Spring Season.             From  February  to  April.

 Harvesting Season of Sugarcane.
Starts from  October  to  March.
Crushing Season. 
Season start with effect from 1st October, but date to be specified by the Government.
Activities:
This organization is working on provincial level and implementing the Sugar Factories Control Act, 1950. Beside the implementation of the Act, the other main purpose of the office is to ensure the payment of cane growers within the prescribed time period and check the recovery percentage of Sugarcane through field inspectors.
This office is also collecting agency of Sugarcane (Development) Cess at the rate of 50 paisa/40 Kgs. An approximate amount of Rupees 14- to 15 crores are being collected from the Sugar Mills annually and deposited in Government Account through this organization.
